1962 Tower Chieftain

The 1962 Tower Chieftain was made in England to Smith-Corona’s specifications. It is a clone of the Skyriter model, sold under the Tower brand at Sears. It’s so small and cute next to the “portable” Smith-Corona Sterling. These “super-portable” models really are portable, weighing in at just over 8 lbs. It also has an attaché style lid that snaps right onto the typewriter.

Great typer on the go!
The Chieftain/Skyriter isn’t quite as fast as a regular Smith-Corona floating shift portable, but I think it’s a little more snappy than a Lettera 22. Don’t worry about the carriage shift. The platen on this thing is tiny! Definitely worth a try, as they can be found at good prices.
